Social media has become a way to share our lives with one another without actually talking face to face.  We post pictures in the hopes of getting “Likes” or “Comments”.  There is an instant gratification to seeing those numbers go up. There is a natural desire as humans to be liked and feel accepted. I too had years of pictures I had posted in the hopes that’s someone would like them or be proud of some accomplishment I had made. I wanted to show off how cute my kids are or how happy my family is. Why?  How many people are on your social media friends list that you are actually physically friends with. How many are actually apart of your life?  Why do we care what people think that aren’t apart of our lives? Why do we feel the need for their approval when the only approval we should be looking for is from the Lord?  And while we are out here being blinded by the desire to be popular, Satan is using it against us to keep us in a constant state of discontentment.  When is it enough? We compare ourselves to the images created by others. That’s all they are though, images.  We see what they want us to see. How many times have you fought and argued and dragged kids here or there and said something like “smile nice now” or “ you better behave” while looking at the camera and acting like the happiest family in the world.  Then you post the picture with some cute comment about how awesome your day was.  How deceiving is that?  When we constantly compare ourselves to the images that others want us to see, we are only setting ourselves up for failure. Of course you’ll never be as good as them, because that’s not really them. Instead of desiring to be like an image of someone that they have created, we should be desiring to be like the one who made us in His image. God doesn’t ask us to compare ourselves with one another. We are to desire to be more like Christ. That’s all the approval we should be looking for because in the end that person that your hoping will like your post is not the one who will make the final judgment. Most likely they don’t even know the power that they have over your day either. Don’t let likes or comments fuel your happiness. It will always leave you with a leaking tank.  Fill it with the things from above. The things that no one can take from you.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,”

Galatians 5:22 KJV
